Can you tell us a bit about yourself and how you came to join the team?

Back in high school I played on the US National soccer team, but had to step away due to injuries. After spending some time in college and realizing it wasnโ€™t the path for me, I worked a few different types of jobs before Justin (another team lead here) referred me to Up Up and Away. Ever since I started, I havenโ€™t looked backโ€”I love the culture and the people.

Can you describe your role and what a typical day looks like for you?

My role has shifted a bit recently to focus more on developing our business relationships, but as a Team Lead my day actually starts the night beforeโ€”I review the schedule and make sure weโ€™re all set for the next day. If we donโ€™t have any jobs lined up, I focus on networking, meeting with commercial clients, grabbing coffee with people, and building relationships. I also try to stay on top of phone calls to assist the team or clarify job details. At the end of each day, I check in with the other team leads to see how things went and get ahead of any potential issues.

What are some of the most interesting or unusual items youโ€™ve hauled?

As a team we came across something pretty unusual onceโ€”explosives! Donโ€™t worry, we didnโ€™t haul those away! Looking back, one of the most memorable jobs for me was a larger demolition project. We were contracted to tear down a handful of walls, fixtures in a bathroom, flooring, a fence, concrete pads, a back deckโ€”it was a big project. What stood out to me about that job was the amount of communication it took to complete everything in just two days. The team really stepped up, even coming in on their days off to make it happen.

Can you share a memorable experience or a particularly rewarding moment from your time here?

The most rewarding moment for me was when I booked my first job through networking and then handled the whole project myself, from start to finish. Seeing the whole process through on my own was a great feeling!

What are some of the biggest challenges youโ€™ve faced on the job, and how did you overcome them?

One of the biggest challenges is navigating the time it takes to get to and from jobs, especially with dump times and traffic. Planning routes strategically and knowing the best times to hit the dumps is key to managing that.

What do you enjoy most about working in junk hauling?

I love meeting new people! Every day brings different stories, and you never know who youโ€™re going to meet. It keeps things exciting.

What do you like to do in your free time when youโ€™re not hauling junk?

Iโ€™m big into golf. Iโ€™ve been playing for about two years, and Iโ€™m almost down to a single-digit handicap. Iโ€™m proud of my longest drive record: 374 yards!

How would you describe the team dynamic at our company?

Weโ€™re a cohesive, fluid team. We work as one unit and have no problem stepping into roles that need to be filled to make sure we succeed in creating great experiences for our clients.

What do you think is the key to providing excellent customer service in our industry? How do we stand out at UUA from our competition?

Listening. Youโ€™ve got two ears and one mouth for a reason. Clients will tell us everything we need to know, as long as we listen carefully. Thatโ€™s where we stand outโ€”we pay attention to what our clients are saying and make sure we deliver.

What impact do you hope we make at UUA in the community we serve?

I hope we help our community reclaim their space, so they can tackle their own personal projects and reach their goals!

We look forward to meeting you and helping you defeat junk, one pile at a time. Give us a call, shoot us a text or click the book now link below to get your project started!
