At Up Up and Away Junk Hauling, our team is what makes the difference. This month, we’re spotlighting Jax Walker, one of our team leads who has been helping customers reclaim their spaces since July 2024.

1. Can you tell us a bit about yourself and how you came to join the team?

I actually knew Taylor from the neighborhood. I was mowing lawns at the time when Taylor reached out and offered me a job with Up Up and Away. It turned out to be a great fit!

I’ve always been into cars and racing. Back in high school, I raced go-karts and Miatas, and I still enjoy anything automotive-related today.

2. Can you describe your role and what a typical day looks like for you?

Every day looks a little different. Some days we may tackle one large job, and other days we’re running all over metro Atlanta handling five or six pickups.

A big part of my role is finding solutions for clients and making sure jobs run efficiently from start to finish.

3. What are some of the most interesting or unusual items you’ve hauled?

One of the more memorable ones was a dirt bike and completely disassembled Vespa. Not something we see every day!

4. Can you share a memorable experience or rewarding moment from your time here?

Honestly, learning how to operate a skid steer was a pretty rewarding experience. It’s been cool getting to learn new skills and equipment while working here.

5. What are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced on the job?

One of the toughest jobs I worked was leading a large office cleanout. It required a lot of coordination because different team members were working in separate parts of the building at the same time.

The biggest thing that helped us succeed? Communication. Making sure everyone stayed on the same page kept the job moving efficiently.

6. What do you enjoy most about working in junk hauling?

Every single day is different. You’re constantly meeting new people, going to new places, and helping people who genuinely need the service. Everyone has a story and it’s rewarding to help out and be part of it in some small way.

7. What do you like to do in your free time?

Outside of work, I enjoy detailing cars, SIM racing, and mountain biking.

8. How would you describe the team dynamic at Up Up and Away?

Very collaborative. Even when crews aren’t physically working together, everyone stays aware of what’s happening across routes and jobs so we can make the best and most efficient decisions as a team. Everybody’s willing to help each other out.

9. What do you think is the key to providing excellent customer service in this industry?

A big part of it is understanding that every customer has a story. We’re entering people’s homes and helping remove personal belongings – sometimes during emotional or difficult situations involving elderly family members, moving, or other life changes.

It’s important to handle those situations with care and sensitivity, even if it means slowing down a bit to do things the right way.

10. How does Up Up and Away stand out from the competition?

The friendliness and professionalism of our team is what we get complimented on the most. We’re not just good at hauling junk – we’re good people passionate about taking good care or our customers and each other.

That makes a huge difference.

11. What impact do you hope we make in the community?

I hope we continue helping not just individual customers, but also the community as a whole.

There are a lot of public spaces and areas people drive past every day without thinking twice about them. Helping clean up and improve those spaces – and taking care of the environment along the way – is something that matters.
