Ever been curious to learn more about one of the gals that answers your calls? Meet Amanda, our Office Manager!

1. Can you tell us a bit about yourself? What do you like to do when youโ€™re not working?

Iโ€™ve been married for almost ten years, and Iโ€™m a mom to two kids under three years old. Life is definitely busy, but full of lots of silliness and sweet moments! Off the clock I love reading, exploring new places with my kids, sitting around a campfire, eating good food with friends, and watching Survivor or reruns of The Office with my husband.

2. How did you come to join the team?

Iโ€™ve known Taylor, our owner, for years, but I wasnโ€™t actively looking for a career change when this opportunity came up. However, the more I learned about the company, the more I realized it was the perfect fit and the right timing. This job has given me something pricelessโ€”a chance to be more present with my family. That balance between work and home life is something Iโ€™ll never take for granted.

3. What does your role as office manager entail? Whatโ€™s your day like?

No two days in the office are the same! On any given day, Iโ€™m answering calls and emails, coordinating the crewโ€™s schedule, running reports, dreaming about the future of UUA with our leadership team, writing content for our blog… Iโ€™m always on the move, juggling tasks to keep everything running smoothly!

One of my favorite parts of the job is connecting with our clients. Even though most of my interactions happen over the phone or through email, I love โ€œmeetingโ€ new people and helping them solve their problems. Itโ€™s rewarding to be part of making their day a little easier.

4. Whatโ€™s the most rewarding part of your job?

Nothing makes me happier than hearing from a client who says their experience with us exceeded expectations. Itโ€™s also incredibly satisfying to know weโ€™ve made a difference, whether itโ€™s helping a realtor meet a last-minute deadline or clearing a space for someone who just wants to reclaim their garage.

I also enjoy improving the systems we have in place. Thereโ€™s always room to grow and innovate, and I love finding ways to make things run even better behind the scenes.

5. What challenges come with your role, and how do you handle them?

This job definitely keeps me on my toes! Some days donโ€™t go as plannedโ€”whether itโ€™s bad traffic, long lines at the dump… our teamโ€™s reliability is one of our core values, so we work hard to find solutions when things donโ€™t go as expected. Itโ€™s not always easy, but itโ€™s rewarding to know weโ€™re doing everything we can to deliver for our clients.

6. How would you describe the team culture at Up Up and Away Junk Hauling?

One of the best parts of my job is the team I get to work with. Everyone strikes a great balance between professionalism and having fun. I tend to be more serious by nature, so itโ€™s refreshing to have a team that can laugh and encourage each other daily. Iโ€™ve been pleasantly surprised by how kind everyone is, not just to our clients but to each other!

7. Whatโ€™s your secret to staying organized in such a fast-paced role?

Iโ€™m all about staying organized, and for me, that means notesโ€”lots of notes! Taylor introduced me to the app Todoist, and itโ€™s been a total game-changer. It helps me keep track of everything I need to do without letting anything fall through the cracks.

8. Whatโ€™s your approach to customer service? Do you have a favorite call or a moment that stands out to you?

I always try to โ€œsmile with my voiceโ€ because thatโ€™s the main way I interact with our clients. Kindness and respect go a long way, and I do my best to understand their needs and start solving their problems from the very first call.

One of the more memorable calls Iโ€™ve taken was from a family clearing out a loved oneโ€™s belongings after theyโ€™d passed away. They were out of state and didnโ€™t know where to start. Helping them navigate that emotional process reminded me of how important it is to treat everyone with kindness and grace. You never know what someone might be going through.

9. Do you have a go-to desk snack or song to keep you motivated?

Cherry Bubbly sparkling water is my favorite, and I usually snack on something quick and easy to eat between calls. As for music, I love listening to instrumental or worship music to keep my day running smoothly.

10. Where do you see the company headed in the next few years?

Iโ€™m so excited to see where Up Up and Away Junk Hauling is headed. Weโ€™re looking to expand our service areas and grow our team in the coming years. Itโ€™s exciting to think about all the new opportunities that lie ahead!
